Owls vs Sharks

It’s done. My first complete “short.” 😀

Owls. Versus sharks. Tale as old as time, right?

Long time readers might remember where this all technically began. Remember this? I began this short as a way to run through an entire production workflow on my own in order to understand how After Effects fits in. (We use AE at the studio I work at, so I really want to get up to speed in it.) Not only did I figure out a good production pipeline for myself, but I also learned a ton about working in digital video. Square pixels, I shake my fist at you.

The actual production time was very short– probably less than week in all. The background was drawn in pencil and colored in Photoshop. The animation, ink, and paint was done in a fantastic free program called Pencil. The camera work, lighting, and compositing was done in After Effects, while the final short was edited together with sound effects in Premiere.

Future plans: Animate the ocean, add in better ocean sound fx, and more scenes.
